Announcement after the 5th sitting of the ad hoc Commission for the 2023/2024 term on amendments to the Regulations of the Students’ Union

We would like to inform you that during the 5th sitting of the ad hoc Commission of the Students’ Parliament of the UW for the 2023/2024 term on amendments to the Regulations of the Students’ Union of the UW:

Commission discussed the possible introduction of a voting silence in the election of student representatives.

The entire sitting was devoted to the consideration of the establishment of a possible voting silence during elections conducted by the Electoral Commission of the Students’ Union of the UW and the closely related issue of election canvassing for candidates. The ways in which candidates promote their candidacies and the related problems were discussed. In particular, canvassing in unit buildings, in dormitories and via electronic communication means was discussed intensively. The participants in the sitting also addressed the topic of people who could get involved in the candidates’ election campaigns. As a result of all these discussions, the Commission supported the idea of developing a catalogue of prohibited canvassing activities and agreed that it should include, at the very least, a ban on canvassing in residential council elections by going “room to room” in dormitories, a ban on the use of university mailings as a form of election canvassing, with the Electoral Commission of the Students’ Union of the UW still being able to use it for pro-frequency purposes, and, in addition, a ban on promoting candidates with items other than handouts and a ban on canvassing by persons with whom students have forms of university dependency.
