Announcement after the 1st sitting of the Students’ Parliament of the UW for the 2023/2024 term

On Tuesday, 28 November 2023, the Students’ Parliament of the University of Warsaw for the 2023/2024 term began its activities.
The first sitting of the Parliament was opened by Maciej Strupiechowski (WPiA), chairman of the Revision Commission of the Students’ Union of the University of Warsaw.
The meeting was attended by guest representatives of the UW authorities: His Magnificence Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, UW Rector, and Prof. Sławomir Żółtek, UW Vice-Rector for Students and Quality of Education, as well as representatives of the University of Warsaw PhD Students’ Union: Aleksandra Grzegorska, MA, Chairwoman of the University of Warsaw PhD Students’ Union, and Jakub Róg, MA, First Deputy Chairman of the University of Warsaw PhD Students’ Union.
Rector Nowak, Vice-Rector Żółtek and Chairman Róg gave speeches in which they emphasised the momentous significance of Parliament in representing the student voice and the importance of cooperation between the Students’ Union, the PhD Students’ Union and the University authorities.
Parliament elected the Scrutiny Commission of the Students’ Parliament of the University of Warsaw.
It was agreed that the Commission would have five members in the new term, and then proceeded to elect them. Immediately after the election of the composition, the first sitting of the body was convened to elect its leadership. The Commission consists of:
- Justyna Smoleń (WNPiSM) – chairwoman;
- Jakub Tusiński (WO) – vice-chairman;
- Jan Chmielewski-Gill (WArch);
- Małgorzata Książyk (WLS);
- Daniel Zdrodowski (WS).
Parliament elected the Presidium of the Students’ Parliament of the University of Warsaw.
Krzysztof Radziwon (WPiA) was elected Marshal for a second term. Danuta Grabovska (MIMUW) and Natasza Husiatyńska (WPol) were elected Vice-Marshals.
Parliament approved the composition of the Board of the Students’ Union of the University of Warsaw.
In accordance with the Regulations of the Students’ Union, approval was requested by Aleksander Hebda (WPiA), President of the Student’s Union of the University of Warsaw. The Board for the new term will be composed as follows:
- Aleksander Hebda (WPiA) – chairman;
- Aleksandra Skipietrow (WDIB) – vice-chairwoman;
- Mateusz Mossakowski (WPiA);
- Heybat Naghiyev (WNE);
- Zofia Nijakowska (WNPiSM).
Parliament heard the basic theses of the annual report of the Revision Commission of the Students’ Union of the University of Warsaw and the annual report on the activities of the Electoral Commission of the Students’ Union of the University of Warsaw.
The basic theses of both documents were presented by the chairpeople of the mentioned bodies. More attention was focused on the report of the Electoral Commission and the concise summary of this year’s autumn elections presented to the Parliament. The discussion considered matters relating to the body’s activities and the just-conducted elections of student representatives.
